A sporting event can be a great way to get to know the people in your neighborhood and foster solidarity with the people you share space with. It can also unite everyone in good, friendly competition, but in order for a community sporting event to foster community, there must be enough people in attendance. Part of coordinating such an event is getting the word out and developing a committee to share the responsibility, and in this day and age there are a number of ways you can take the news to the streets.

You might consider flyers that can be handed out door-to-door urging anyone interested to join in and participate, but sometimes not even that is enough. Another approach is creating a website and coordinating email communication. If you get your internet through places like clearwirelessinternet.com and your network can handle it you might even consider making an announcement on Facebook. One other approach is simply spreading the word verbally, but usually a combination of these approaches work best.

As stated before, a community sporting event can only be as big and effective as the community that attends. Coordinating the event, organizing the proceedings and scheduling everything is cake compared to motivating people to attend.

Whether you are a minor league team in an intramural league in your city, or whether you are forming an amateur league to try and win a title in a sporting event, finding the right sponsors, and making sure to have the right people backing your team up, will greatly improve your chances of doing well.

Using sponsors is a great way to raise money to purchase equipment, uniforms, protection for players, training gear, and whatever else is requried to play the game. Using sponsors is also a great way for a business in the community to show they support the local teams, and to get a good form of advertising. When businesses sponsor a sports team, the team will typically put that business’ name on their uniforms, showing the community that the business really cares about its community, and drawing more attention and more clients to visit that business.

Making sure to go around your community and find sponsors that are willing to help out the team, is a great way to earn the funds for products needed by the team, and is a great way to get the entire community involved and rooting for your team on the field.

Most community businesses really like to get their names out there and show the community that they support their local children and sports’ teams. The hope is that this will increase traffic into their establishment so being supportive of children’s sports is a great marketing strategy. If you are just starting up a children’s sports program you may want to look to some of these businesses to sponsor your teams. The only real cost involved for them is usually the purchasing of the team uniforms and maybe some other small fees. In exchange for sponsoring the team financially, they will have their business name on the uniforms and the team will be associated with that business. It is not likely that all businesses will be able to sponsor a team but find ways to get them involved if they choose. You could have a local restaurant be in charge of concessions or have the local photographer provide team pictures and other items. You can also go on the search for highly qualified individuals that have a positive image to volunteer in the program. Community sports and games cannot be successful without the help of many people so get them involved.

Sports can be an instrumental part of any community and getting children involved in sports early is a great way to create community spirit and increase athletic performance later in life. The best way to start a team is to go to the local schools and contact the students through fliers and meetings. It is also important to visit daycares and go to the places where children congregate. Put out information fliers in churches and anywhere else that they can be seen. You really want to make sure that you find a way to reach all of the available children. Then set up an informational meeting for community members, children, and their parents. This should give them the facts about the team and cover a variety of other important information. Mentoring young players is extremely important so you need to make sure that you find people with good character traits to lead your brigade. One negative coach or mentor can really dampen the excitement for everyone. Make sure that you set out some rules and guidelines for parents and spectators that will detail the expectations that you have for them so that everyone is on the same page every day.

Community involvement in sports is prevalent across the country so it is a great means to also support a charity. When you decide that you want to support a charity by using your community sports, you must first decide on which charity you want to help. It is best to just choose one charity for each event so that there will be no question about where the fundraising profits will be distributed. You may want to find a local charity or you could even choose a charity that will directly help someone in your community. It is all up to you and your community leaders about which charity to sponsor. In order to get the maximum number of people you will need to advertise through local businesses, fliers, and cable access channels. You also need to decide if the event will have a cost or will it be done with donations. Go around to the local businesses and ask them for donations. Make sure that you show them your appreciation by placing their business names so that everyone can see the contributions that they made. If you have the funds and time available, look into creating customized t-shirts for everyone.
